Founded in 1995 at the dawn of the new media age, ZIGZAG Lane is a highly respected audio production house based in Sydney.
ZIGZAG’s producers, sound mixers and sound designers have worked on thousands of productions for television, advertising, film and corporate clients.
Our diverse range of work includes factual, drama, comedy and children’s television series, feature films, documentaries, film trailers, tvc’s, radio, live events, websites, games, apps and telephony. We have built our reputation on professionalism, creativity, technical and organisational skills but most importantly, our focus on service.

In 2012, founding partners Derek Allan and David Chapman joined with Rob Sarroff to form ZIGZAG Post to provide offline and online editing, colour grading and video mastering services, thus creating a full service production facility under the ZIGZAG banner.

DEREK ALLAN Managing Director, Producer/Senior Sound Supervisor
Derek is a founding partner and our Managing Director. Keen to be involved in projects as early as possible, Derek can assist you with resource allocation, budgets and the management of your post project from pre-production through to delivery.
He is also a sound designer, sound mixer and music supervisor, with hundreds of production credits in television, streaming, film, advertising and online projects. Derek is your ‘go to guy’ for a sound mix that will make your pictures look even better.
Recent mixing credits include the television documentary series The First Inventors, on Channel 10/NITV, Love on the Spectrum US, on Netflix, feature documentary The Carnival which had its world premiere at the 2023 Sydney Film Festival, and the feature comedy/drama Ellie & Abbie (and Ellie’s Dead Aunt) now streaming on Netflix.
Derek completed a Graduate Diploma in Business (Screen) at AFTRS in 2014.
David Chapman is an accomplished composer, programmer and musician who played and composed songs for various Sydney bands until forming Zig Zag Lane with partner Derek Allan. David's strength is the ability to compose across a range of genres and his CV is testament to this, with credits in documentary, factual, drama, children's television, trailers and short films. David worked with Iva Davies in the band Icehouse, and co-arranged and performed two seasons of the Sydney Dance Company's highly successful production of "Berlin".
David has won numerous awards including the APRA/AGSC Television Theme of the Year Award for 'Enough Rope with Andrew Denton' and the Johnny Dennis Music Award among many nominations.
David commenced his career as a sound engineer with BBC Radio in London where he worked in a range of program formats including live broadcasting and music recording sessions. On his return to Australia, he worked variously in local radio and live music production before landing a job as a producer with SBS Radio.
Since joining ZIGZAG Lane, he has established himself as a sought after dialogue editor and sound mixer with credits on numerous high profile productions, including Love on the Spectrum for ABC/Netflix (2021), Taronga: Who’s Who in the Zoo for McAvoy/Channel 9 (2020), Extreme Engagement for Wildman Films/Netflix (2019), Coast Australia (Series 4) for Great Southern Television/Foxtel/BBC (2019) and the award-winning feature documentaries Miguelito directed by Sam Zubrycki (2019) and My Rembetika Blues directed by Mary Zournazi (2021).
Seána (previously Shauna Doyle) joined ZIGZAG Lane in 2018 after graduating from the University of Technology Sydney with a Bachelors in Music and Sound Design. In a short space of time, she demonstrated an instinctive understanding of audio post-production, working on a range of projects from tvc’s and promos to feature length documentaries and dramas.
Her sound design skills have been utilised in numerous documentaries and television productions, most recently Netflix’s Love on the Spectrum US, SBS’s The First Inventors,ABC’s Better Date than Never and Channel 9’s Big Miracles.
Seána is now also undertaking a PhD in experimental audiovisual composition, immersive technology, and chromesthesia.
Jules is a sound designer with a passion for all things audio. Initially pursuing a career in music production, he found himself drawn to sound design whilst completing his Diploma of Audio Production. Working as a sound engineer in both music and post-production studios, Jules has gained experience working across a range of content and platforms in film, television, and broadcast audio for networks such as Netflix, Stan, Foxtel, Nat Geo, ABC, SBS, Channel 9 and Channel 10.
Since joining ZIGZAG, Jules has contributed to several documentaries and television productions such as Extreme Engagement, Miguelito, Coast Australia, and the 360 immersive cinematic experience Our Country.
